Kiwi slices with the peel on over Greek yogurt

Here’s your permission slip: stop peeling your kiwi.

Say goodbye to attempting to peel your kiwi only to be left with a tiny nugget of fruit and half of it being thrown away with the peel.

Kiwi slices with the peel on over Greek yogurt

Turns out that’s the complicated way. The part we’ve all been throwing away is doing the heaviest nutritional lifting.

Eat the peel and you get 50% more fiber, about a third more folate, about a third more vitamin E, and more antioxidants than the flesh on its own. One whole kiwi with the peel on gives you around 3.5 grams of fiber. That’s a big reason kiwi shows up in so much gut health research.

Now the texture. Yes, it’s fuzzy. Here’s what actually works: wash the kiwi, rub it hard with a clean kitchen towel, and most of the fuzz comes right off. Then slice it thin, or chop into bite-sized pieces. Add it to yogurt or toss it in a fruit salad and you barely notice the peel. Or grab golden kiwis. Their peel is thinner and smoother with barely any fuzz at all.

Here’s the part I love most: no peeler. No sticky fingers. No kiwi sacrificed to the compost gods. Wash, slice, done. More kiwi in the bowl, one less tool to wash, and about thirty seconds of your morning back.

We overcomplicate food with special tools and extra steps and rules we inherited from someone’s grandmother, then wonder why eating well feels exhausting.

Sometimes eating well is just not peeling the kiwi.
